HIGHLAND PARK QUALITY OF LIFE

Highland Park Quality of Life Meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.  The Highland Park Quality of Life Plan is an implementation of some guiding principals and goals for the community.  With a commitment and willingness for the community to work together, we can make meaningful changes.  This Plan has 4 goals.

 

GOAL: SAFETY AND COMMUNICATIONS

To increase safety, community awareness and community connections.

Objective 1 - Building the neighborhood watch

·       Block watches

·       Recruiting tables at events

 

Objective 2 - Education

·       Come up with a campaign to educate the public about safety

 

Objective 3 - Calendar

·       Maintain monthly calendar of events of activities in area

 

Objective 4 -  Expand existing community events:

·       Highland Park Spring Break

·       National Night Out

·       Highland Park Christmas Party

 

Objective 5 - Welcome Wagon

·       Establish a Welcome Wagon that will welcome new neighbors

·       Assemble a packet of community materials for package

GOAL 2: BEAUTIFICATION / BLIGHT

To increase HP beautification, character and quality through art.

 

Objective 1  - Branding

  • Design Welcome to Highland Park signs

  • Facilitate a design contest or event to design a logo

  • Advertising, how do we get the word out?

 

Objective 2 - Trash

  • Educate community through accountability letters

  • Set up community clean ups

  • Increase youth and adult participation in clean ups

 

Objective 3 - Reduce Blight Properties

  • Educate the community about options dealing with vacant properties

  • Identify target properties

 

Objection 4 - Youth Memorial

  • Establish location for the youth memorial

  • Work on a design for the youth memorial

Objection 5 - Landscaping

  • Improve landscaping in public areas

​

GOAL 3: YOUTH ENGAGEMENT

To assist youths in becoming productive adults

​

  • Identify key individuals in the community to form the Youth Steering Committee

  • Establish annual community youth fair

  • Collaborate with community organizations to provide youth service opportunities

  • Establish youth/senior connection

  • Arrange art workshop, athletic programs, entertainment offerings and teen-specific special events

  • Engage youth in academic and leadership activities

  • Establish a relationship between youth mentoring organizations

 

 

GOAL 4:  MEANINGFUL AND GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT

​

  • Promote small business opportunities through informal networking

  • Identify organizations where specific skill sets can be used

  • Organize job readiness and career advancement workshops

  • Connect residents and area schools and organizations that provide vocational training opportunities.

  • Establish an apprenticeship program with community organizations

  • Expand opportunities for affordable child care for working parents
